Mrff. Some kind of doodle. I've been trying to doodle once a night so I keep at drawing even when I don't have time during the day. It worked for the first week or two, but I've kind of slacked off. This was a good doodle... most are sucktastic. Hmmm. I like to write a lot of random things on the side of my drawings too. My handwriting scrawls into illegibility more often than not, so I shall transcribe for ye D: (From left to right)
"There are some things you will loose in this world that mean more than anything" (Durr... random quote which I thought sounded cool. It may or may not have actually applied to him. Sometimes I just write whatever comes into my head, so I have a lot of half written lines and sentences in my sketchbooks)
"'s not my fault he has PWETTY hair >_>" (Self explanatory, really...)
"FUCK, I need to draw girls more" (...Because half my guys LOOK like girls, but it's not really the same thing)
A Uni friend of mine was looking through this and it caught her eye (Maybe because he looks a little like Jin from Samurai Champloo). She pointed out that since I designed him, It kind of was my fault he has pwetty hair D:. It's the national custom, dangnabbit! That's my excuse anyway.
I want to finish this properly and colour it. I figure I can get some cool ambient lighting in or something like that. Oh yeah, the 'RED' down the bottom is for the colour of his robe. Pre-planning! I left it kind of grey because lightening it too much cut out the softer pacer strokes in his hair. He does have nice hair, but it makes him fall into a certain category of long-haired, tall bishies with glasses :/ (Ala Jin from Champloo, Abel from Trinity Blood, and that dude from Loveless...)
lol xD
Hmm, that reminds me... maybe as well as showing how to colour-in in Photoshop, also show how to ink-in sketches? The only way I think I can figure out inking is with the magic wand tool and stuff ._. ah-well, if it's too much for you to do, don't do it ^_^;
As for inking... hrmm. My inking method is painful slow though . I don't know if I'd recommend it greatly to others, as it's only really possible with a wacom. But hey, maybe peoplle will want to know how I do it anyway. If nothing else it's another method people could try so they can find out what works best for them
*starts inking this one now because she's bored ...*
Vector Style Lineart Tutorial
wewtness, I found this yesterday when I was bored I haven't tried using it yet, though, but guessing from all the favourites and comments it's gotten, you would think that it works xD;
ah-well, maybe you'd like a look at that ^^ *hopes her html doesn't muck up*
and can't wait to see the inked up version of this!
Ah~ Yes, I've used that technique a lot . It works well, but unfortunately it needs nice clean lines to work properly. If you're trying to 'ink' a pencil sketch which has a lot of grey area or lines that are close together that you want to be defined, then it tends to smudge them together. Or else, if you try and adjust the levels too much to get rid of that grey, you loose some of the original details and lines. But it works really well if you want to smooth out a clean pencil sketch, or just to get rid of that subtle blotching that comes with using felt liners.
haha the first thing I noticed about this sketch wasn't actually his pwetty hair (although it takes up basically half the page) but his *cough* nose o.O I guess it's because he's pointing it up like that ^_^;;
And I don't know, but I think maybe his neck is a bit too, erm, wide or something? >_< I was looking at it trying to find what I thought was most unproportionate (if that's a word), and I think that's it. Otherwise I think his left eye (from our view, his right ) needs to... come out a bit more or something... it just seems too flat @_@;
Oh-well, if you make this into a print or something, I hope my comments help I reckon this has potential!
Nose, hair, it's all good xD. (As long as it's not those two things in conjunction with eachother anyway...). I agree with you about the neck part though . It was way too far in when I first started the sketch, but I think I made it a little too far out by the end of it. All of my sketches are never in really great alignment anyway. That's what trusty photoshop is for~ (It's a lot easier to move things around and flip images to catch out errors...)
Thanks for the suggestions though . I'll be sure to make note of them when I'm cleaning this one up and inking it.
