So you might have been wondering what the hell I have been up to art-wise and the answer is DOODLING ON TUMBLR HERP DERP [link]
No but seriously I blame people on Tumblr for getting me into the Young Justice cartoon, and by quick extention DC comics. In the last few months my bookshelf has exploded to excessive amounts of Batman. For reasons I cannot really fathom, despite being in to Spiderman, X-men and Batman when I was a kid, that fascination never carried itself over to me reading western superhero comics.
Until now anyway.
I have 1/3 of a shelf full of Batman and Nightwing and now I've started reading Superboy. So far I really enjoyed the Loeb/Sale Batman comics, Gotham Central, the Early Nightwing, and the new Batman and Robin is a lot of fun too.
BUT YES right now it's all about 90's Superboy and his fabulous hair and no I haven't read Young Justice yet but oh my god these three are so easy to draw together kjshdgauygd.
I drew all of these in like 3 days in BALLPOINT PEN which I have to admit has shocked myself because normally I am a fucking slacker who ruins a perfectly good drawing by over working it, and also draws like one picture a week and that's usually a lazy headshot.
Everyone should try ballpoint drawings because there is something really refreshing about making each line count and not being able to erase your mistakes. Also it makes good use of this thick sketchbook of too-smooth-for-my-pencils 90gsm paper.
Thanks! Hehe, I too wasn't a fan of ballpoint until one day I got tired of not drawing enough and just thought "fuck it I'm gonna draw, terribleness be damned". It's still possible to do light construction lines, but I enjoy it more because it makes me think about where I'm putting my strokes. At the same time it also reinforces that it's ok to make mistakes though. Sometimes drawings don't turn out, but it's all about the practice and process.
Yeah, I get what you're saying. I must say though, I like drawing in pen more when I have more than one color. Like haveing a blue pen to sketch out and black one to go over it with. But the it's okay to make mistakes thing is very true.
I totally understand. I got into DC comics a year or two ago and now it's pretty much my life. I recommend anything with Booster Gold in it. Especially Justice League International (which they're doing a new series of, so excieted!). Or The Flash. The Flash is always good.
