[edit] HOLYSHIT Daily Deviation. Wow. I never thought I'd get one of those. Thanks a lot~ :'D

1st year Graphics/Media project from last semester. Finally got it back after they kept keeping it from me to take pictures. Tutor didn't actually end up taking any pictures so she gave it back to me anyway.

Sooo, I took some snappies on an A2 piece of leftover pasteboard. Put it under Literature because, well, it was a book-making project.

The brief for this project was to create a book based around the visual language of a community of our choice. It was to be roughly A5 in format, with a cover, 6 pages and a limited 2-colour palette. I chose Gaiaonline's Writers Forum, which I've been a regular at for a few years now. And it has an interesting visual language too, what with all the internet humor and clique-y nature of online communities. And snarky writers. Because I wanted to give it a flow-through narrative structure, I made the book so that you could pull it out to form one long page. Since we had to source all our own material for the project, I did all the illustrations (drawing inspiration from Gaiaonline's avatar system). A more whimsical style than I usually do, so as to get that light, fun and crazy aspect across.

Affectionately called the 'pasteboard brick' because of how much pasteboard went into making it.

I got a High Distinction and was really pleased with it overall. The main thing my tutor was't sold on was the colour scheme...

Pasteboard brick by ~kimiko is simply outstanding. You can see that great amount of time and effort went into this design and as a result, nothing but pure excellence. (Featured by `depthskins)

Using the box to think outside the box in book design. This is very inspirational. Fantastic job!

By the way, is that designed so that you can pull those inner boards out without them pulling out?

I wish I were this thoughtful when it came to 3D projects .__.;;
Well done

Inspirational? Wow, thanks :3

And yep, they're tabbed on the inside, so when you pull out the first page it will catch on and pull out the second page, and so on. I mostly used a strip of foamcore for the tabs, plus strips of 2mm pasteboard in some places.

Congratulations on the High Distinction.
