Pwetty hair - screentoneby ~kimiko

Who?: Mikaeru, an original character of mine XE. (It's not just that I went trippy with the screentone, he does actually have slightly darker skin...)
What?: Photoshop... took a while to ink, but the screentoning didn't take that much time.

(While I was working on this my dad came in to tell me dinner was ready)
Dad: I wonder why these Japanese styles always have button-noses...

I hereby issue this image with a flower warning. There was a gap, okay. I needed to fill it with something. At least it doesn't have those fuzzy shoujo light-blooms or lace. But anywho~ It kind of suits it anyway. I mean, he has flowers on his back as well.

Yet somehow any screentone flowers scream "zomg teh girlyboi cliche!!1!1". But whatever. Originally I was going to colour this properly, but I got a bit bored of that... so I thought I'd try something different. So... it's attack of the screentone this time around. This was done using a screentone package I got off the net, but because they're propper 300dpi kind of screentones, sizing it down kind of... fux0red with it a little bit. You know, that meshy kind of look you get when it doesn't size down evenly. 's not too noticable anyway. And because I thought greyscale was a little boring I did a bit of colour tweaking. 'Difference' is actually a pretty useful layer option for greyscale, so long as you tweak the opacity a bit, because you get a good polarisation of colour as oppose to it looking flat XE.

Because the original sketch wasn't overtly interesting, I decided to compensate with a lot of detail on his back. I rather like how the detailing came out, although I used ref for the flowers because I suck at them. I learned to my amusement that Lillies are meant to be a sign of virginal purity. Hummm.... maybe not in his case, methinks. Technically the creature isn't a dragon, although really, it looks a heck of a lot like one anyway... It's a Seirat, or rather, a ter'Seirat since it has no wings. Their world has no horses, so they use the bipedal lizards for transport instead. Actual Seirat are the extremely large winged variety, and are very rarely seen.

But yeah~ I'll have a few of these for sale at Supanova/Animania, although I'd planned to print them in B+W, and I probably will do some, but the colour looks nicer DX

Very nice piece. I especially like all the details on his back (very very great work) and his hair for sure. Well-matched tones. The whole piece is impressive.

i really like it .. specially the patterns on his back the profile, his hawt lips *3* and the flowers at the top right >3< ..
his profile view looks pretty and that hair sure looks pretty

you really did a great job screen-toning this .. i think it looks better this way than if you colored it ..
